Reach Out Orphanage Ministries’ Easter R.I.S.E. Campaign is supporting children and communities as they work to Reach Independence through Self Empowerment.

This Easter season R.O.O.M. is giving JESUS instead of bunnies, NUTRITION instead of sweets and LOVE instead of eggs.

What sets Reach Out Orphanage Ministries apart from other orphan care nonprofits is this:  R.O.O.M. aims to work ourselves out of a job.  Our deepest desire is to see every child grow up in a loving, stable family home environment.  We do this through orphan prevention, orphanage support and orphan solution projects.

R.O.O.M.’s orphan prevention programs empower parents to care for their children through parent education, health interventions, nutrition assistance and early childhood education.  This is accomplished through our Bethel Daycare Program in Orissa, India.

R.O.O.M.’s Orphanage Care Programs in Honduras and India provide orphanage support by empowering partner orphanages to become clean, healthy and filled with God’s word.  We empower orphanages to become clean by replacing outdated appliances, providing new bedding and providing other essentials.  We empower orphanages to become healthy by providing safe drinking water, fresh fruit and vegetables, vitamins, personal hygiene items, education and routine health and dental services.  We empower orphanages to become filled with God’s word by providing Gospel materials; specifically age-appropriate, culturally-appropriate Bibles and devotions.

R.O.O.M. provides solutions in orphan care through our Scarlet Project in Honduras.  The Scarlet Project provides foster family and Transition Home placements for abandoned and orphaned children, as well as emergency health interventions for children who are sick or malnourished.

Through these prevention, support and solution projects R.O.O.M. is empowering families and communities through the love of Christ to move beyond cycles of poverty and child abandonment toward independence and self-sufficiency.

Small things breed big things at Senderos de Amor: New clothes. New underwear. Pride and self-care.

Today Reach Out Orphanage Ministries was blessed with the opportunity to provide much-needed clothing for the boys of Senderos de Amor.

Senderos de Amor is Spanish for “Paths of Love.”  This orphanage houses thirty-one residential boys, as well as nine boys with special needs who are under ROOM’s care.  Senderos de Amor is ROOM: Honduras’ newest orphanage partner.  We met Senderos’ young men, along with Senderos’ staff and leadership team, after Nueva Esperanza (San Pedro’s public orphanage) closed and the nine boys under ROOM’s care needed to move into a new facility.  Senderos de Amor welcomed our children and their caretakers with open arms.

Senderos de Amor (pictured right) is located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.  It is home to forty boys who have been orphaned.

Cassie Murray, ROOM: Honduras’ Country Co-Director, visits Senderos regularly.  Cassie is passionate about empowering this children’s home.  Orphanage staff members do their best to stretch limited resources but, unfortunately, these boys have many unmet needs.

The boys do not have adequate clothing.  Some have pants that are as much as six inches too short.  Others have shirts and pants that are painfully too small.  Some wear clothes full of holes or rips.  Most have no underwear or socks.

“After spending some time there, I quickly realized that underwear and fitting clothing was a necessity for these boys.  They are responsible for their own laundry.  There is no washing machine, but they are remarkably responsible and capable of doing the hard work of hand-washing.  They take such pride in their home and, although it needs so much work, the boys are often seen raking the yard or sweeping the floors.  Their rooms are immaculately kept.  The general atmosphere is one of peace.” Cassie explains, “The boys take such care of what little they have.  This clothing is such a blessing.”

The ROOM:  Honduras team delivered new clothing and underwear for the boys of Senderos de Amor today.  The hardworking caretakers at Senderos will give these special new clothes to their children this week.  By allowing the orphanage leadership to hand out items to the children under their care, instead of directly giving these gifts ourselves, ROOM is empowering the caretakers and staff to meet their children’s needs.  By continuing to visit and build relationships at Senderos, ROOM provides accountability and ensures that the boys will receive and wear these needed items.

Small things breed big things.  Empowering caretakers to provide appropriate underwear and clothing for the thirty-one boys who call Senderos de Amor home shows these boys that they matter.  It instills a continued sense of pride and self-care for young men who are learning to take responsibility for themselves, but must still rely on adults to provide basic needs like clothing.

Reaching Out!

Reach Out Orphanage Ministries shares the love of Christ by empowering children and communities through orphan prevention, orphanage support and overall solutions in orphan care.

Prevention:  ROOM abandonment prevention programs empower parents to care for their children through parent education, health interventions, nutrition assistance and early childhood education.

Support:  ROOM provides support to public and private orphanages through our Orphanage Care Programs.  Our goal is to empower children’s homes to become clean, healthy and filled with God’s word.  We empower orphanages to become clean by replacing outdated appliances, providing new bedding and securing items necessary to maintain cleanliness.  We empower orphanages to become healthy by providing safe drinking water, fresh fruit and vegetables, vitamins, personal hygiene education and routine medical and dental services.  We empower orphanages to become filled with God’s word by providing gospel materials; specifically culturally-appropriate and age-appropriate bibles.

Solutions:  ROOM works toward orphan care solutions through emergency health interventions and promoting short-term and long-term placements in foster families and Transition Homes.  In ROOM Transition Homes children can live temporarily in a family home environment before transitioning into a long-term adoptive or foster family.

Reach Out Orphanage Ministries carries out these programs by working alongside orphanage staff members and through forming effective partnerships.  ROOM works globally with local governments, churches, ministries, volunteers and nonprofit agencies in developing nations.  ROOM also works with churches, mission teams, sponsors and donors in the United States.

Our ultimate goal is to help create a world where all God’s children will grow up in a stable, loving family where all their basic needs are met.  We look forward to the day when our services are no longer needed.

The purpose of this blog is to share special information about the children we serve, our orphanage partners, special projects, opportunities to support our work, prayer requests and praise reports with our ROOM family.
